Help Shape the Future of Canadian Barley: Participate in the Barley Benchmark Survey
The strength of Canadian barley in global markets is built on quality, innovation, and the leadership of our farmers. As brewers and maltsters raise the bar on sustainability and transparency, it’s more important than ever to showcase the environmental and production strengths of Canadian barley. That’s where the Barley Benchmark comes in.
Led by the Canadian Malting Barley Technical Centre (CMBTC) and industry partners, the Barley Benchmark is collecting real-world production data from farmers to develop a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for Canadian malting barley. This science-backed assessment will help maintain Canada’s reputation as a trusted supplier of high-quality, sustainable barley while ensuring that producers aren’t left behind in the evolving global marketplace.
SaskBarley is encouraging all barley growers to take part in this important initiative. Cody Glenn, Chair of SaskBarley, stresses the value of farmer participation:
“Canadian barley is already recognized worldwide for its quality, but global markets are demanding more transparency around sustainability. The Barley Benchmark ensures that our industry stays ahead by providing credible data that proves the environmental and agronomic strengths of our barley industry.”
Why Your Participation Matters
The Barley Benchmark survey is a chance for Canadian barley growers to tell their story. The data collected will highlight the responsible practices and innovation that define our industry, helping to:
✅ Strengthen Canada’s leadership in the global barley market
✅ Provide credible, science-backed sustainability data
✅ Reduce the burden of repetitive sustainability reporting on individual farmers
✅ Support long-term market opportunities for Canadian barley
By contributing to this survey, you’re ensuring that your voice is heard and that the story of Canadian barley is told accurately and effectively.
“This isn’t just another survey,” Glenn adds. “This is about setting the standard for Canadian barley in global markets. By participating, you’re directly helping to promote and protect the value of your crop.”
